San Juan Timberwrights Goes Small
After building sustainable, green timber frame homes for 25-years, we’re making the most of limited resources and space and expanding into small and tiny home design. San Juan Timberwrights’ Tiny Timberframe Kits are made from the same reclaimed wood and quality construction as our full-size timber frames but in a smaller size that you assemble at your location.
Living in a small space can be challenging. Smart design and the clever use of space makes a difference between feeling cozy and crowded. The reclaimed wood in our tiny timber frame adds depth and beauty to a small space without making it feel cluttered. Exposed beams draw the eye upward creating the illusion of space.
Tiny Timberframe Kits
We handcraft each Tiny Timberframe Kit from reclaimed Douglas fir (other wood choices are also available). The kit includes:
- Pre-cut timber
- Pegs
- All hardware needed for assembly.
We ship directly to your location or you can pick the kit up at our shop.
Tiny Timber Frame Assembly
To make construction easy, we label each piece and provide step-by-step instructions. Tiny Timberframe Kits also include a DVD demonstrating frame assembly.
We include two sample floor plans though the space is flexible and can be arranged to fit your needs. The finished size of our standard tiny timber frame is 11’ 3” x 19’ 3” with 8’ walls. You can easily expand your structure up to 12’ x 30’ in size by adding additional bents. Or you can eliminate a bent to make the frame as small as 10′ x 12′.

Construction Materials
Our tiny timber frames are designed to use standard size building materials for efficiency and cost. Exterior walls can be constructed using conventional framing, structural insulated panels (SIPs), straw bale or adobe block.
Small Spaces, Big Ideas
The Tiny Timberframe Kit offers endless possibilities. Besides being a primary living structure, it can be used as an office, guest room, play house, pavilion, covered porch, hot tub area, outdoor kitchen, yoga room, greenhouse, “man cave” or “she shed.”
